If, after reviewing this page, you have a question/concern reach out to S’mores (mark@thegoodtimesproject.org) or Cooper (tanya@thegoodtimesproject.org).

staff positions & teams

We have built some really strong teams that embrace people’s skills and blend personalities. We are stronger together and need to make collaboration and inclusion a priority.

Staff Rosters

By accepting a position at camp, you are confirming that you have the time off, that you’ll adhere to Camp Goodtimes’ Personnel Policies (for review), and will submit required forms by June 18. It also means you’ll complete pre-camp online staff training modules and quizzes by June 18.

position priorities

Each role at camp is a necessary and valued role. There is no hierarchy of “better” or more important jobs. We all bring something to the mix to help create a vibrant and welcoming camp environment.

  • Cabin Counselors: collaborate in the best interest of campers, share responsibility, keep camper’s cared for

  • Activities Crew: engage campers in fun, communicate clearly, encourage participation

  • Arts & Crafts: facilitate creativity, help campers, create a safe work space

  • Muscle Crew: handle logistics, anticipate needs, enhance camp

  • Camp Chronicle: document camp through photos and videos

  • Care Coordinator: care for camper’s mental health and behavioral needs

  • Nurses/Providers: care for camper’s physical health and medical needs

  • Cabin Unit Leaders (ULs): support counselors/CAPs, address camper needs, be role models

  • Activity Unit Leader (UL): support Activities Team, coordinate programming, be role model

  • Assistant Camp Director: help coordinate programming, support staff, create community

  • Camp Director: big picture oversight, clear roadblocks for staff & campers, lead with positivity

  • All Staff: safety is priority #1, camper’s come first, help each other regardless of position

staff insights

  • Camper check-in & welcome gauntlet: Some check-in stations will be outdoors (including the welcome table, the nurses, luggage, and mail). The photo station will be inside Grisham and the gauntlet will occur on Grisham’s back patio. Parents will drop off camper’s belongings in a designated area and camp staff will transport it to cabins; parents will not accompany campers to their cabins.

  • Camper check out & closing ceremony: We’ll have closing remarks in the dining hall directly after breakfast, then we’ll collectively make our way up to the flagpole; non-cabin staff will head there early and create a gauntlet-like energy with pool noodles and streamers by the heart that all campers will walk under. We’ll then collectively lower the flag to signify the end of camp, say the camp pledge one last time, and then allow campers to mix and mingle in upper field while parents arrive and we start the official checkout process.

  • Meals: the majority of meals will be eaten indoors in the dining hall except for Friday’s BBQ dinner when campers can opt to eat outside. During other meals, if a camper needs to eat outside on the patio area because of sensory issues, have them get food from their cabin’s table and ensure they receive their meds first before going out on the deck.

  • STOs: staff are allowed to leave the camp property for their scheduled/approved time off. Ensure you use the sign-out sheet in the staff office and leave your name tag. Repeat the process upon returning.

  • Dance: Friday night’s dance will happen outdoors in Upper Field.

illness (including measles & covid) protocols & guidelines

It’s important that all of us know and adhere to the following. We cannot stop illness but we can employ layered protocols to help deter spreadable illnesses from entering and spreading during camp. *The following are subject to change if circumstances and mandates change.

VACCINATIONS:

  • All staff should have had their childhood vaccinations, such as MMR, Polio, Chicken Pox, etc.

  • COVID vaccination and subsequent boosters are highly recommended but not required.

  • View Goodtimes’ immunization policy for a more thorough explanation of what is required and what is recommended.

PRE-CAMP:

  • Staff with any symptoms, including fever, runny nose, cough, rash, or measles or COVID or confirmed exposure to measles or COVID, should not attend camp.

  • If a staff member gets ill leading up to camp, please reach out to S’mores immediately. He will consult with the nursing staff to determine next steps and eligibility.

DURING CAMP:

  • Staff should report symptoms of their own illness (or that of a camper) immediately to a nurse; including runny nose, cough, fever, chills, diarrhea, rash.

  • The nursing team will assess the staff member or camper and it is up to them and/or the camp provider whether any symptom or ailment is cause to be sent home.

  • All staff consent to a rapid COVID test during camp if they become symptomatic or were exposed to a COVID-positive person.

  • If a camper or cabin counselor tests positive for COVID during camp, that individual will be sent home immediately. The remainder of the cabin will stay (unless a parent asks to pick up their child) and will be monitored for symptoms. Any non-cabin staff that tests positive will be sent home immediately.
